Gingerbread Rolls

I have the perfect recipe for you! Comforting gingerbread flavour all rolled up into your favourite cinnamon roll recipe. The taste is subtle but delicious. The molasses makes these gingerbread rolls even more ooey and gooey and sticky and delicious than your regular cinnamon roll.

all you have to do is follow the same exact steps as my original cinnamon roll recipe, but this time we add a few different spices to the mix. You can experiment with the quantities once you master the cinnamon roll. I didn’t want to over power the cinnamon flavour too much so I added in subtle gingerbread flavours. To add to the cuteness factor, I added a mini gingerbread person to every roll.

Grab your ginger because this recipe is worth gossiping about!

Gingerbread Rolls

Yield: 9 rolls

INGREDIENTS:
Dough
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
4 cups flour
Filling
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 tbsp molasses
Glaze
1 cup icing sugar
2-4 tbsp milk (depending how thick or thin you want icing)
1/2 tsp vanilla

DIRECTIONS:
1. To warm the milk, place in microwave for 45 seconds. Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Set aside to froth up for
5-10 minutes.
2. In a stand mixer, with the hook attachment, mix together sugar, butter, salt, eggs and flour.
3. Pour the milk/yeast mixture into the bowl and mix well.
4. Place the dough into an oiled bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
5. Meanwhile, make the filling by mixing the sugar, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg together. Leave butter/molasses separate for now.
6. Roll out the dough on a silicone mat or floured surface until it is approx 16X12 inches.
7. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter and molasses.
8.Brush the melted butter/molasses mixture all over the dough, reserving some extra to pour on top of the filling mixture. Sprinkle with the filling mixture until all of it has been used. Pour remaining butter mixture onto the sugar mixture and using a spatula, spread around until mixture is blended.
9. Carefully, using the long edge, start rolling up the dough into a tight roll. Cut the roll into even 9 slices and place into a square baking dish.
10. Cover with a damp towel and let them rise again for about 30 more minutes.
11. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
12. Meanwhile, make the glaze by whisking together all the ingredients in a small bowl. Once rolls are removed from oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze on top of all of the gingerbread rolls, top with a small gingerbread cookie (optional). Enjoy!
